Dr. Teresa SmithDr. Teresa Smith graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College, in Guelph, Ontario, in 1997. She is both a Canadian and American citizen but moved to Florida to escape the cold Canadian winters. After a tough year working with cows and horses at a mixed animal practice in South Carolina, she moved to West Palm Beach, Florida. The fast paced, high tech clinic offered lots of learning experiences, but Dr. Smith found that she wanted to practice the same high quality medicine at a slower pace, and moved to the west coast. Her areas of veterinary interest include; endocrinology, dentistry and critical care. When away from work, her hobbies include working out at the YMCA, watching movies, and spending time with her 9 year old daughter, Hannah.
Dr. Anita Holt, VMDDr. Anita Holt, VMD joined the Heron Creek Animal Hospital in August of 2013 after closing my AAHA accredited practice, Pampered Pet Health Center, in Port Charlotte . I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical School in 1990 making this year my 25th year in practice. I consider myself fortunate to have been a resident of Charlotte County for 24 years. Since 2000 I have practiced Integrative veterinary medicine for small animals incorporating acupuncture, homotoxicology , Chinese herbal therapies and western medicinal herbs into their treatment which I have found improves the quality of their lives and extends their lives. I am very happy to be a part of an excellent, friendly, dedicated team at Heron Creek Animal Hospital and bring alternative therapy options to our clients for their pets. However I am especially grateful for those clients and their pets that I took care of in Port Charlotte who chose to follow me to Heron Creek Animal Hospital. Although my veterinary degree is from the University of Pennsylvania I am a diehard Florida Gator! I received my undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree and a Masters degree from the University of Florida prior to starting veterinary school there. After my first year I transferred to the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School. Go Gators!
In my free time I enjoy hanging out with my pets Paulie, Gabriel, and Frito. I also enjoy watching College Football, playing in a women’s dart league, swimming, boating, spending time with good friends and traveling to new places.

Christina, Operations ManagerHello, my name is Christina. I joined the Heron Creek Animal Hospital team in 2016, but have known and worked with Dr. Cindy for a long time. I started as a receptionist in 2003 and apprenticed to technician and management. If I am not here at the hospital, you can find me spending time with my children, Lexi and Nick, and our fur babies Kate and Snowflake. I am always happy to help you and look forward to seeing you at the clinic.
Hi, my name is Melissa! I was born and raised in St Petersburg and in 2005. I moved to Cape Coral to be closer to my dad. I currently live in the North Port area and am in the process of building a home with my boyfriend Joey. We will be moving in shortly and we are very excited about this new chapter of our lives. We have 2 dogs (Delta and Brad), 5 hens (Mabel, Thelma, Louise, Connie and Red) 1 rooster (Clifford) and a mini pig named Mae Mae!
I have been a part of the Heron Creek family since May of 2016 and I come with quite a bit of experience. I started out as a kennel assistant at a local boarding facility in Punta Gorda. During my employment there one of my own pets underwent Hemi laminectomy surgery (spinal surgery) by a local Neurologist and that is what began my love for veterinary medicine. Shortly after that I began working as a Veterinary Assistant at a local day practice. It wasn’t long after being there that I began drawing blood, placing catheters and assisting with surgical procedures. I have made my way around veterinary medicine and have experience in emergency medicine as well as Cardiology. I love the veterinary field and everything that it has to offer. I am happy to have found my place here at Heron Creek Animal Hospital and I am even more excited to have recently taken the position as Patient Care Director. I look forward to meeting all of you and working with your babies as I continue to grow with Heron Creek Animal Hospital.
Janice, Veterinary Assistant
Hello! My name is Janice, and I work at Heron Creek Animal Hospital as a veterinary assistant. I am originally from Puerto Rico but moved to Florida when I turned 7. Ever since I was little, I knew I wanted to work with animals. My grandma had a lot of different animals, including chickens, rabbits, goats, and horses. I loved helping her taking care of them. I've been in the veterinary field since 2015 and I absolutely love it. I am happy to say I look forward to coming to work every day. In my free time I enjoy going to cat shows and spending time with my family, friends, and my 2 dogs Romeo (a cockerpoo) and JJ (a pug mix).

Debbie, Client Care SpecialistHi! I'm Debbie. I've been part of the Heron Creek Animal Hospital family since March 2007. Being a people person and animal lover, I couldn't have started my endeavor into the animal world at a better place. Working with this team has been a wonderful experience. My interest in this field stemmed from my daughter who has wanted to be a veterinarian since she was three years old. The knowledge and support I have gained while working at HCAH is priceless.
The best thing about my job would have to be the clients. They are truly an awesome group of people that I have had the pleasure to meet and get to know.
When not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband Al, and our two children Tai (daughter) and AJ (son), as well as our cat Willow, and our two dogs: Kyra and Kelly.
If I were an animal, I would be a puppy - playful, energetic, and full of life.
Laura, Client Care SpecialistHi my name is Laura, I have been a part of the Heron Creek Animal Hospital team since April 2008. I enjoy reading, computers and anything involving horses. I share my home with my husband Greg 2 beagles Noah and Kayla, and 4 cats Bartholomew, Sirius Black, Travis and Ruggles.
Octavio, Client Care SpecialistHello! My name is Octavio. I have been a part of the Heron Creek family since March of 2012.
In addition to being an avid animal lover, I am fluent in three languages: English, Spanish, and American Sign Language. I graduated from Flagler College with a degree in Deaf Education and Public Relations in 1994 and Flagship University from their Flight Attendant Academy in 1998.
I enjoyed 13 years as an international flight attendant until in 2009, when my doctor gave me some of the most devastating news of my life: I had to quit flying because I had lymphoma. I was able to beat my cancer with the enormous help of my friends and family and this bad news turned out to be a blessing in disguise because it turned out to be a pivotal point in my life, personally and professionally.
In August of 2009, I was given an opportunity from my own personal veterinarian in Arlington, Texas to start working in his clinic. It was a dream come true.
Now I have 5 wonderful dogs and 1 pig: Pancho (Toy Fox Terrier), Leopold (Chihuahua), Zara Viktoria (Miniature Schnauzer), Mei-Ling (Pug), Sasha Valentina (Shih tzu mix) and Lucrezia Bella (pig).
In my free time I enjoy going to the beach, relaxing by my pool, spending time with the dogs, or garage-selling.
If I had to choose an animal to compare myself to I would choose a mutt. I am a jack of all trades, I like a little bit of everything in my life, and I am able to relate to many different types of people.
Jennifer, TechnicianHi there! My name is Jen. I have been a part of the Heron Creek Animal Hospital family since I was a young girl. My mother and father (and extended family) started coming to the clinic when it first opened in 2006 as clients. I was too young then to work here, but I already knew by that age that I wanted to be a part of this field.
I was given an incredible opportunity through my high school and the local county technical institute to do an internship at a local veterinary hospital in order to become certified as a Veterinary Assistant. Of course, I knew right away where I wanted to intern: this clinic! Once I graduated, Dr Smith hired me on as a Certified Veterinary Assistant and I have been learning and growing ever since. I am now enrolled at St. Petersburg College in the Veterinary Technology Program, working towards becoming a Certified Veterinary Technician.
In addition to my wonderful parents, my family includes one dog (Sidney), one cat (Tigger), and 2 goats (Remington and Daisy).
In my free time you can find me reading, kayaking, biking, and spending time with my family and friends.
HeatherHello,I'm Heather I'm a Veterinary Technician at Heron Creek Animal Hospital. I've been a part of the hospital now for over 2 years. So a little bit about me: I was born in Long Island New York and raised in Florida. I have 4 pets of my own. Two dogs, a German Shepherd, a chiweenie, and two cats. My main goal right now is to start school to become a certified technician and perhaps eventually further my education to become a veterinarian. I've always known that I wanted to work with animals since I was a little girl. I would always tell my parents it was my dream to become a veterinarian. I was about 10 years old when I volunteered during the summer for Dr. Holt at Pampered Pet. That's when it all started. After volunteering there, I knew that working with animals was my calling.
